Alexander Isak, the Swedish sensation, finds himself on the periphery at Newcastle United amid swirling talk of a blockbuster transfer.

Liverpool’s staggering £110 million bid was promptly rebuffed, yet the tension refuses to dissipate.

Omitted from the pre-season tour of Asia, Isak chose to train at his former club Real Sociedad in Spain rather than join his teammates — Newcastle, attributing his absence to a minor thigh issue, though scans showed no visible injury.

Upon return, manager Eddie Howe made his stance clear: “You have to earn the right to train with us,” signalling a rift that appears unlikely to heal soon, according to Talksport.

Consequently, Isak is expected to miss Newcastle’s Sela Cup fixtures against Espanyol and Atlético Madrid — highlighting how far he stands from the squad at this moment.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s attempts to secure a replacement have faltered — most notably their £69.7 million offer for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who now appears to prefer a move to Manchester United.

As talkSPORT’s Alex Crook noted, “Now the Sesko deal has collapsed from underneath them, it makes it harder for Isak to leave,” especially since alternatives like Yoane Wissa, Ollie Watkins, Lois Openda, and Nicolas Jackson are still being explored.

At Anfield, however, the picture is shifting.

Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sell Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal for around £46.3 million plus add-ons — a move that could free up funds for a renewed attempt to sign Isak.

With both clubs in complicated positions — Newcastle unwilling to sell without adequate replacement and Liverpool keen to reinvest — the coming days may well determine whether Isak stays in the North East or embarks on a record-breaking move.
